The Estero High School girls cross country program opened its season with a strong showing in Tampa.

The Wildcats placed fourth out of 20 teams at the FACA Cross Country Classic's 5K Elite Girls race on Friday night at Ed Radice Park.

Difficult and muddy conditions greeted the field of 136 girls. Estero sophomores Kacy Smith and Aja Curth shined with top five finishes.
